Located to the South of Vancouver and close to the US border, Delta is home to approximately 100,000 people. The area gets its name from the rich river Delta in which it occupies. This fertile land is home to many farms and as such most of Delta's land base is devoted to agriculture. Much of this farmland is below sea level and is prone to flooding from the Fraser River during large spring melting.
Several major highways run through Delta, making the suburb and important link the transportation network of Greater Vancouver. Highway 99 connects the city to both Richmond and Vancouver as well as the US border. Highways 10 and 17 connect to the Tsawassen Ferry Terminal and Deltaport Container Terminal. A new highway is planned for Delta which would like the above areas with Highway 1 in Surrey.
Delta is divided into three distinct neighborhoods. In the West and along the farm delta areas are Tsawassen and Lander, both housing close to 25,000 people each. In the Western portion along a large ridge in North Delta, housing the majority of Delta's population with 50,000. North Delta is an area closely integrated with Surrey and as such many people often do not consider it as part of Delta in the way Ladner and Tsawassen are.

By far the majority of Delta is very suburban in structure, mostly consisting of single family homes in sprawling neighborhoods. Many people prefer to raise their families in Delta because of it's quiet lifestyle and good access to both schools and recreation. The city is unique in Metro Vancouver in that it's neither a city or a municipality, instead Delta is classified at the Corporation of Delta.
